OUR HISTORY

 

     The church of Christ began back in the first century A.D. after the death, burial, and subsequent resurrection of Jesus the Christ. Before Jesus ascended back to heaven we read that His disciples asked when His kingdom would be established. Jesus told them that the Spirit would come on them with power, and that they would be His witnesses throughout Jerusalem, Judea, Samaria and to the rest of the earth (Acts 1:6-8).

 

     Soon after that, on the day of Pentecost, this very thing happened.  The gospel - the good news about Jesus - was preached, and the first converts were added to His church. You can read about this in Acts chapters 1, 2, & 3. The rest of Acts tells us that from that point on, the church grew and spread throughout the world. History confirms this. Though there has been apostasy (people leaving the truth), persecution (suffering for the cause of Christ), and all sorts of false teaching creating false religions throughout the years - despite all this, the Lord's church has continued to exist.

     This congregation of the Lord's church began meeting in 1978 when several Christians in the area started assembling together in their homes. After renting rooms in Laconia, they outgrew the location and moved to a larger facility in nearby Gilford, NH. The present facility (pictured here) located at the corner of Mill Street and West Main Street in Tilton, NH, was purchased by the congregation in 1988.

 

​     We always have rested our faith and hope in Jesus and His Word. This congregation is excited to see the Lord work in our community and affect the lives of our friends and neighbors!
